Surface Procedures

Pterygium Surgery

Pterygium surgery is a procedure performed to remove noncancerous conjunctiva growths (pterygia) from the eye.

The conjunctiva is the clear tissue covering the white part of the eye and the inside of the eyelids. Some cases of pterygium produce little to no symptoms. Severe overgrowth of conjunctiva tissue can cover the cornea and interfere with your vision.

Amniotic Membrane Transplantation

AMT performed immediately after an ocular surface burn has been reported to reduce the patient's pain, accelerate healing, and reduce fibrosis and neovascularization. The surgery involves securing a sheet of amniotic membrane over the entire ocular surface up to the eyelid margins.

Excision Biopsy

A surgical procedure in which a cut is made through the skin to remove an entire lump or suspicious area so it can be checked under a microscope for signs of disease. A small amount of healthy tissue around the abnormal area may also be removed.

Simple Limbal Epithelial Transplantation (SLET)

Simple Limbal Epithelial Transplantation (SLET) is a surgical technique for the treatment of limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD). Since then, several papers have validated its efficacy restoring the ocular surface, renewing the corneal epithelium and avoiding the re-conjunctivalization of the cornea.
